From 2019 to 2022, I had the privilege of serving as the Creative Director and Producer for the "Unleash the Gospel" movement with the Archdiocese of Detroit. This period was uniquely challenging, particularly due to the pandemic, which required us to adapt our communication strategies to effectively maintain engagement and outreach.
Navigating this new communication landscape demanded innovative approaches to keep our community connected. My role involved directing all materials and initiatives across print and digital media, including social media, video live events (yes, when Churches closed for those first few months, we were there every Sunday, broadcasting Mass), and podcast content, as well as managing a comprehensive 50+ page print magazine.
Leading a team of three designers and three video producers, along with coordinating with four to five external contractors, required not only strong leadership but also seamless collaboration. Our collective goal was to elevate the quality and impact of all content produced, making it both relevant and engaging for our audience during a time of rapid change.
Enhancing the quality of content across various channels was a primary focus. This involved setting high standards for our print materials, digital content, and multimedia projects.This meant coaching and working with in house talent to bring them up to speed on contemporary design and media practices while publishing high quality designs and materials.
The pandemic necessitated agility and innovation, compelling us to continually adapt our strategies to meet the evolving needs of our audience. Despite these challenges, the "Unleash the Gospel" movement thrived, demonstrating the resilience and creativity of our team. This experience highlighted the importance of creative leadership in times of crisis and underscored the power of strategic communication to inspire and unite. The success of the "Unleash the Gospel" movement is a testament to the dedication of a talented team and the effectiveness of our communication strategies during a time of unprecedented challenge.
