Almost Home

A short film part of the 8Beats Anthology

Almost Home" is a short film I produced as part of the anthology project "8 Beats," where each of the eight films takes on one of the biblical Beatitudes as inspiration for its story. Using contemporary storytelling, each film offers a fresh perspective on these timeless spiritual principles.

Directed and written by George Simon, our film was inspired by the Beatitude: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." It follows Christopher, a truck driver journeying home with a significant stop to make, who encounters Samuel, a seven-year-old boy on a road trip with his parents. The constant fighting between Samuel’s parents leads to unforeseen consequences, intertwining their fates in unexpected ways.

Set against the stark and expansive Southern California desert, "Almost Home" explores themes of grief, resilience, and redemption. The production presented numerous challenges, including extensive location research, securing permits for filming on public roads, and managing a complex shoot in a remote desert with a large truck, actors, and crew. Despite these hurdles, the film beautifully captures the essence of finding comfort and connection amidst adversity.

"Almost Home" has been honored with selections at the Cindependent Film Festival, Windy City Film Festival, and more.
